From Sinatra to Shatner, Cyndi Lauper to Liam Gallagher, thousands of artists have paid tribute to Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr, making them the most covered songwriters of the 20th century.

However, John Lennon’s obscure solo track, Bless You, covered by Liam Gallagher in 2022, is the most intriguing and surprisingly inspiring Lennon cover I’ve heard in years. And if you’re not a fan of Oasis or the Gallagher brothers, don’t worry. This isn’t an article about them.

It’s about innovation through the collision of cross-cultural genres and artists.

Without the neo-soul of D’Angelo, the groundbreaking hip-hop production of J. Dilla, and, of course, Lennon’s brilliant songwriting, Liam Gallagher’s out-of-left-field moment never would have happened.
